Along with the technical aspects of knowing the good bets from the bad bets, craps includes a lot of jargon and game etiquette. Yes, I said etiquette. That's hard to imagine when you consider the stereotypical cigar-chomping cussing craps player, but all kinds of people play craps from business people to college students, and craps encompasses various gambler superstitions and codes of behavior.
In fact, the chapter on game etiquette in Get Dicey is so interesting, the magazine Midwest Gaming & Travel featured an excerpt.
So far, with Get Dicey you'll find out which bets to play and which to avoid and how to be cool on the game.

Excerpt from Get Dicey:
Buy Bets
Although playing the six and eight is fun, and probably the best course, the higher payoffs associated with the four and ten are very tempting. As you remember, place bets on the four and ten pay 9 to 5. However, place bets on the four and ten usually become buy bets after you bet more than $10 or $20.
“Wait a minute. Now I have to buy a bet?” you ask. Sure you do when you are place betting on the four and ten. Many people enjoy the pride of ownership, but if you buy a bet do not expect to have time to go to the title company and sign papers. Like all things in craps, it will tend to be a brief verbal transaction.
When you buy a bet, it means you agree to pay a vigorish, or commission, that will entitle your place bet to earn true odds, which are the same odds used for pass line and come bets. After buying the upgrade on your bet, your bet on the four or ten will pay 2 to 1 instead of 9 to 5. The dealer will also visually embellished your bet by setting a little colored button on top of the checks that says “buy.” The vigorish is a 5 percent fee applied to your bet. Players generally refer to it as “the vig” instead of actually saying vigorish, which might be pretentious. You can also call it juice. Either way, if you are talking about vigs or juice, you will be considered a dice player.
An example of a vig fee is $1 for a $20 bet, which equals 5 percent of the bet. Depending on the casino, you may not have to pay your first vig until the buy bet wins. However, some casinos will insist on up-front payment of the fee, but do not think that you have to do this everywhere. To find out the vigorish payment rules for a particular casino, ask your dealer, boxperson, or floorperson.
Your $20 buy bet will win $40, which represents 2 to 1 odds, minus $1, which is 5 percent of $20, and therefore you will be paid $39. Without the buy, the regular place bet on the four or ten would have earned a 9 to 5 payoff of $36.
Depending on the casino, you may not be able to buy a number and receive true odds with a bet less than $20. On a lower limit game, you can usually buy a number with a $10 bet.
You should also be aware that charging $1 for a $25 buy bet is often allowed as a customer courtesy. Although the correct 5 percent vig would be $1.25, many houses excuse the $0.25 in favor of encouraging play at a $25 level.
Remember, if you are going to play at a $20 level and above, buy the four and ten when you choose to play those numbers. If the outside numbers are rolling, they are one of the best ways to make money on the craps game. Some players are even committed to buying the four and ten as their basic game strategy. They disdain the low rent crowd on the six and eight.
If the shooter has a point of four or ten, you can also make your buy bet on the pass line. This should definitely be communicated to the dealer, who will, if time allows, put the buy button on your bet.
Although, technically, any number can be bought, some casinos do restrict buying to the four and ten. If you have the opportunity and desire to buy other numbers, then the odds pay 3 to 2 on the five and nine and 6 to 5 on six and eight.
